Our group’s major charitable effort is to provide comfort quilts for Jefferson County Hospice, Child Protective Services and patients entering chemotherapy at Jefferson Healthcare.   Most members make one or two of these a year, and some members make many more.  Hospice quilts should be approximately 42″  x 54″ (lap quilt) or may be slightly smaller for patients confined to wheelchairs.  CPS quilts may be any size up to approximately 65″ x 80″ (generous lap quilt for teenagers), while others should be smaller, if intended for toddlers or young children.  Small children’s quilts with learning themes (alphabets, numbers) are really appreciated.  Oncology quilts should be a similar size to hospice quilts, and if possible, should have a flannel or soft corduroy backing.  Oncology quilts must be washed prior to submission to minimize allergens.  All quilts should be made from good quality quilter’s cotton, and may be tied or quilted.   We try to make these quilts as cheerful and bright as possible.  Below are some examples of recent contributions.

Each year, Cabin Fever Quilters make “challenge” quilts, in keeping with the theme of the Jefferson County Fair.  One previous theme was “To the Fair and Beyond” with a focus on space travel.  The challenge for each quilter is to include the “theme” fabric in a comfort quilt – for Hospice, Oncology, or Child and Protective Services.  To see the quilt more closely, just click on it!
